10 Utah County Dates You Really Oughta Try

One truth Kevin and I have found in being happily wed is that dating and courtship isn't a means for just finding a spouse... it's a means to keeping a spouse as well! Playfulness and flirting can keep the chemistry high in your relationship, and a great way to foster that is through regular planned, paid for, and paired off dates with your sweetheart.

Do you need some ideas to shake up your dating routine? Here are 10 tried and true Utah County dates Kevin and I have enjoyed during our courtship:

1) Eats & Hikes at Sundance. Ok, for reals though, Sundance Mountain Resort is most definitely rated as one of my top 5 happy places. For a lovely dine-in experience, call ahead for reservations at the Foundry Grill. If you are celebrating a special occasion, we highly recommend purchasing the 100$ dinner voucher, which allows for both you and your spouse to select an appetizer, entree, drink, soup, salad, and dessert; regardless of the menu's regular prices. We recommend the truffle mac'n'cheese and the buffalo ribs. For a less expensive but equally delicious option, grab a quick bite to eat with your spouse at the Deli--we recommend the Bahn Mi Pork Sandwich. After your meal, enjoy the splendor of the Rocky Mountains. A myriad of gorgeous trails are within a short drive from the restaurants, including Cascade Springs, Stuart Falls, and Mount Timpanogos.

2) The Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. Each September at Thanksgiving Point, professional storytellers from around the world gather and share their best yarns. Check out their webpage at https://timpfest.org/. We recommend attending their event, "Laughin' Night." Make sure to bring a blanket, jackets, and/or camp chairs when you attend.

3) Hale Center Theater: Orem. This local theater is special for it's theater-in-the-round setup, as well as limited seating. The actors are often within an arms reach (or less!) of audience members, and truly make their story come alive right before your eyes.

4) The Nickelcade. Located on State Street in Orem, enjoy a throwback night together at the Nickel Arcade. Unleash your inner little kid as you play arcade games, count your tickets, and purchase hundreds of frootie candies. We recommend playing Deal or No Deal.

5) The Curiosity Museum at Thanksgiving Point, Lehi. One of Kevin and I's first dates ever was at this very museum. Designed for kids (and kids at heart), this hands-on museum fosters learning, creativity, and conversation.

6) Drive the Alpine Loop. Whether you start in American Fork Canyon or Provo Canyon, this gorgeous scenic byway is particularly memorable in the fall when autumn colors come in full bloom. We love to roll down our windows to let the crisp mountain air in, while singing along to a playlist of our favorite songs.

7) King Buffet, Orem. We only recommend you try this date once haha! Ideal for double dating, bring along some of your closest friends to try a smattering of Asian dishes. While the quality is questionable, the quantity is astronomical. A memorable date for sure!

8) Dry Bar Comedy. Enjoy 3 clean comics with their best family-friendly jokes at this memorable little gig on Center street in Provo.

9) Velour Live Music Gallery. Live bands play at this University Avenue venue each weekend. With artists playing music from a variety of genres, there's bound to be a new local favorite music find for you here. Some of my favorite shows featured Grizzly Goat and Mindy Gledhill.

10) The Duck Derby. Every summer at BYU's Duck Pond, you can fork out a buck or two to decorate a plastic ducky, and then race him against dozens of other plastic avian competitors. Popsicle included with purchase. (Kevin says: we recommend the root beer flavor).
